Congress has voted, once again, to extend unemployment advantages. Currently, one can receive unemployment extension for about 99 weeks, which is close to two years. Realistically, voting to not extend unemployment benefits is probably political suicide for a Congressperson or Senator. But refusing to lengthen this government benefit is also the right thing to do.

The continual extension of unemployment benefits may be, on first blush, to become a compassionate outreach of our government to those who have been hit hardest through the dishonesty, corruption and outright theft which happen to have characterized both Wall Streets and D. C. for many years. In fact, it's harming both the unemployed and also the economy.

Unemployment insurance was manufactured for short-term job loss that's no fault of this employee, such as lay-off. It is paid for by employers, like me. When we let someone go, it can be "for cause" or "not for cause. " If "not with regard to cause, " unemployment begins to spend. If the person has been fired for, say, insubordination, unemployment insurance was originally designed to pay less or practically nothing, as the job loss was viewed as the employee's fault. Just let someone go without cause, the rate of my "insurance premium" (tax) can move up, especially if I let several people go.

Need I explain that the system doesn't exactly work this way anymore. Employers who contest this unemployment claims of quite possibly the worst employee fired for cause are seen as cruel and heartless. These people, or their representatives, can spend expensive hours and days preparing for and defending the contesting with the unemployment claim. They face a pc biased against employers, however, so many employers don't quite possibly bother to contest this claim. They pay up which has a grimace.

Now, there is actually no such thing as a tax on a business. A business is no individual. So taxes on businesses really wind up as taxes on their customers. If I, being a business, get "soaked, " those costs either ought to be passed on to clients or, sooner or afterwards, I go out associated with business. Econ 101, right? Well, unfortunately, it seems that those that inhabit the fairy get called "Washington D. C. " never took Econ 101.

The more taxes Really easy to implement pay per employee, the fewer employees I'm visiting hire. Extending unemployment insurance will, sooner or later, result in higher together with higher rates. Someone has to pay for these extensions, and the present climate is not company friendly. So, I will hesitate to hire more people because I have no idea how far my employer taxes are raised per employee. All kinds of other business owners feel the identical. Thus, the unemployment duty extensions place a evening chill on hiring.

The extensions are bad for workers, too... especially the low level workers. Many with the things they are unemployed from are problems that are vanishing. For case, if you're an assembly line worker, it is greatly subjected that your job is going to be done by a robot rather then coming back. Robots don't obtain sick, don't need benefits, and don't join that will major American job killer - unions. So, what these folks should do is to use their brains and find something else to complete. Many have. Others check their mailboxes for the unemployment checks.

By stretching out unemployment benefits, we are preventing this unemployed from finding various ways to make a living. Some, even many, these ways would pay more than unemployment benefits. Many people do this every morning.

Extending unemployment benefits simply creates a class of individuals who are buying the minimum, additionally impairing the economy. Those on unemployment don't usually buy cars, microwaves, TELEVISION sets or computers. But those who have found a way to make money for themselves often do.

Extending unemployment benefits is delaying the essential change from a 1950's America where everyone seems to be employed by large corporations, to the America with the 21st Century, where small businesses, independent workers and project-oriented jobs could be the norm. Reform of health insurance and other benefit applications to expedite this, if done with any intelligence (care we expect any from either dishonest and corrupt side with the aisle?), are excellent methods for assisting this necessary change.

Increased unionization, waiting for jobs which will never return, and relying on the government are just foolish and short-sighted notions that must end. The old way of doing business is making a valiant last gasp. President Obama and Congress should go ahead and pull the plug and bring America into the 21st Century.
