Several months ago, back in March, William “Phoebus” Mull made the announcement that NewDoom would finally be closing its doors in early June, so everyone started preparing for the worst. Offers were made to keep NewDoom running, and several others offered sanctuary for the community members to continue their fun and fraternizing.
Although, soon it was announced that NewDoom would NOT be shut down and would continue on unimpeded. The details are vague, but the site was moved to a new server, but the reasons can only be conjectured at this point.
However, some time between last night and this morning, site owner “Phoebus” finally decided that it was time to end it all and proceeded to effectively ban every member who wasn’t himself or a moderator.
Yes, that’s right. If you have been posting at NewDoom for the entire nine or ten years that it has been in service, you now have to pay $2.50 a month to remove your ban, or a “discount” of $18.50 to remove your ban for a full year.
Most members are apathetic about the new situation, one stating, “What [Phoebus] could’ve done is gracefully end the forums as was the original plan. We, as a community could have prepared for the event properly instead of having to suffer this sudden death. I’m not sure what [Phoebus] hoped to accomplish with this, except maybe to prevent us creating a refuge and “steal” Newdoom members as was the original plan. I don’t know, and it really doesn’t even matter.“
NewDoom will be sorely missed. Phoebus will not. And everyone else, enjoy your b&
